Generally the area bordering Jonesfield in what is the Gray's Hill section of Northern portion of Port Royal Island in Beaufort County, SC Seabrook's name origin remains a mystery. Located along the Whale Branch River it is the main area of the Port Royal Ferry area. Seabrook had its name before the outbreak of the war and is mentioned in Thomas Wentworth Higginson's Army Life in a Black Regiment and Susie King Taylor's Reminiscences of My Life in Camp with the 33d United States Colored Troops Late 1st S. C. Volunteers.
