The Individual Soldier File

Telling the story of United States Colored Troop through the use of never before heard dialogue and recently discovered documents.

Learn the individual stories of the thousands of free negroes, former slaves, missionaries and most importantly the soldiers.

During Union Occupation, Port Royal would see the raising of three four colored regiments:

  • Hunter's Regiment

  • 33rd Regiment, United States Colored Troop

  • 34th Regiment, United States Colored Troop

  • 21st Regiment United States Colored Troop

With each file, visitors will be able to take the same journey as each soldier, the ups and downs and what it meant for themselves, to be for the very first time a true American.
